I've written some novels that got lost in transitions. I still love a few of them. When I first wanted to write about witches, I wrote The Familiars. And then the editor I was working with at Tor left, and the next editor wanted more traditional fantasies, not paranormals, and I put the manuscript in a drawer. Sometime later, my agent asked me to try my hand at a YA novel, and I thought The Familiars would make a perfect fit. I switched the entire thing to younger protagonists, sent it to her, and then decided that I didn't want to write YA for years to come and asked her to chuck it. Kindly, she let that manuscript pass without even looking at it. But I still like the damned thing. So I thought I'd load one chapter every Thursday on my webpage. And hopefully, you might like it, too. If you do, I'd appreciate some feedback, just so I know it's worth the bother to keep loading it. Anyway, I'll list each chapter as a new page in the left column and hope you stick with it. It's no novella, but a full-fledge novel. Here goes. Look for The Familiars in the left column.
